My Buddhist Birthday

I know I said in my last broadcast on Blog Talk Radio The Goal Wizard Show Episode 024 I would be writing about my last health crisis, but I've decided instead to write about a Significant Event that happened on this day in 1984.

I took vows as a Nichiren Shoshu Buddhist and received my first Gohonzon. At the time, the lay organization was Nichiren Shoshu Soka Gakkai of America, otherwise known as NSA.

I first started chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo at work. At the time, I was working at a plant nursery, so as I drove tractor around I would chant. Now, when I was first introduced to The Practice, I thought it was silly, chanting to a piece of paper with words I couldn't read. But I was told give it a try so I did. Then mystical experiences happened I couldn't rationally explain. Doors opened for me and people appeared at the right time. So I was convinced, sign me up!

So I received what is called Gojukai at Myoshin-ji Temple in Pinole, CA on Memorial Day weekend. It was on Memorial Day itself, a Monday.

I wish I could say that I've practiced every day since then but I can't. There have been ups and downs, periods of turmoil, homelessness, times where I failed as a Buddhist and generated boatloads of negative Karma. And I'm in a better space to-day and I know my best days are ahead of me.

O, and for my show to-morrow, I'm going to review the 2006 video "The Secret" and discuss the impact Law of Attraction and chanting and believing in the power of Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo and the Gohonzon has had on my life. Tune in.

Anyway, enjoy your day!

Tim

The Optimist's Creed-Full Text

On my radio show this Friday, I begin a new series on The Optimist's Creed by New Thought author Christian D. Larson. It was brought to attention by Rhonda Byrne and The Secret.  So here it is, in full:

I PROMISE MYSELF

To be so strong that nothing can disturb my peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness, and prosperity to every person I meet.
To make all my friends feel that there is something worthwhile in them.
To look at the sunny side of everything and make my optimism come true.
To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as I am about my own.
To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful expression at all times and give a smile to every living creature I meet.
To give so much time to improving myself that I have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
To think well of myself and to proclaim this fact to the world, not in loud words but in great deeds.
To live in the faith that the whole world is on my side, so long as I am true to the best that is in me.

Hope to have you tune in this Friday!

On The Eve of My 52nd Birthday

I know I said I'll talk about Optimal Thinking in my last post, but I'm setting that aside for right now.

Wednesday will mark the 52nd year I've been here on Earth. I've been through a lot, having gone from good Lutheran altar boy, to revolutionary communist, to Buddhist, and now taking radical thinking one step beyond. Now believe me, I much enjoy being 52. It's a LOT better than when I was 22 or 32 or even 42. All that time I didn't really have the maturity to know what Life was all about. O sure, I thought I knew everything when I was younger, but really...come on.

My Goals to-day have more to do with creating a legacy, rather than accumulating things. I want to leave this world a better place than I found it. I want to make Life a little easier for those less fortunate. I want to have people say after I leave this mortal coil that my life had COUNTED for something.

So celebrate each year you're here. I have been so blessed for having gone through all that I have and have survived. I could've wound up in prison for some of the things I've done, but I wasn't. I did have to endure karmic retribution for what I've done. It was a miserable life for awhile, but I got through it. Now I am grateful for what I have to-day.

Anyway, I intend to enjoy my birthday. You should enjoy your life too.

Tim's "Ketch-up" Post

I apologize for not posting as soon as I would've liked.

My last broadcast wasn't as good as I would've liked either. I didn't speak from notes, and thus I forgot to talk about Optimal Thinking as I had promised in the description of the show. Next time I will be more diligent in this regard.

I hope everyone is doing well on their Goals for 2011. It's the end of January and what I've seen in the research is that by the beginning of February most New Year's resolutions get put aside; people stop going to the gym, diets are broken, drinking more continues, exercise equipment is sent to thrift stores or used as coatracks...you get the idea. To-morrow I have to do my CBS 60 Minutes Exercise I spoke of last year in an earlier post.

And I must apologize for not getting the link to the first version of The Secret with Esther Hicks channeling Abraham. It was on Google Video, but it was pulled. But I know it is out there somewhere...

Anyway, for my next post I'll go into more detail about Optimal Thinking.

have a Great Week!

Quit The Ain't It Awful Club

There may be times when you are in situations where it will seem easy to complain about How Bad Things Are. Now, there's a place in time to let off steam and vent and sometimes it feels good.

But staying in "Ain't it Awful" does nobody any good. If you're familiar with Law of Attraction principles you know that what you focus on expands. So when you focus on How Bad It Is...then you get more of How Bad It Is!

I will focus on this matter in more detail on an upcoming episode of The Goal Wizard Show but for now I want to stress this:

Look for solutions in every situation. Got a problem? That's good!

As long as you're alive and breathing, Life will be an ongoing series of problems, difficulties and obstacles. So when you focus on constructive action, you feel better, and then you make better decisions and you ARE better. My friends and co-workers always get the response from me when asked how I'm doing "Better and Better!"

So get out there and be better yourself!

Tim
